June 2012: Industry Challenges Rail & Rolling Stock – Rail Summit La Gaude (France)

The Rail Summit was held on June 5th, 2012 and was hosted by SNCF at the IBM Forum in La Gaude (France). This Summit was a follow-up on other similar Rail Summits held in 2011 at the IBM Forum in La Gaude (also hosted by SNCF), and in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand hosted by Amtrak. Similar to last year’s summit, we were happy to have around 60 representatives from rail industry organizations in Europe that came together to share their implemented projects, lessons learned and plans for the future.

Industry colleagues (railroads, railways, transit and metro systems) from Russia, US, Sweden, Slovenia, UK, Swiss, Poland, The Netherlands and Germany presented important challenges and developments concerning Linear Assets (infrastructure) and Configuration Management (Rolling Stock).

‘OXplus sponsors the international Maximo Rail Industry Summit’

Being main sponsor ( … together with IBM and Accenture) of the international Maximo Rail Industry Summit on June 7th 2011 in La Gaude (France), Oxplus is getting a fantastic opportunity to position its Value Proposition and specific Industry knowledge. The Rail summit is hosted by SNCF and is specifically organized for all railroads, railways, transit and metro systems that have an interest in asset management. A similar event hosted by Amtrak took place in the USA in February and was a great success, leading to European rail companies requesting an event in their region.

Most likely 80 to 100 representatives from rail and transportation industry organizations will come together to share their implementation experiences, lessons learned and plans for the future. This event is intended to facilitate the verbal sharing of ideas and progress between industry colleagues.

Besides SNCF, Russian Railways, Bombardier Transportation, NedTrain, Norwegian Railways and Dubai Metro, will present their companies with topics covering both rolling stock and linear infrastructure assets. SNCF will provide a keynote presentation for the summit describing the State and Future of the European Rail Industry. SNCF is currently implementing Maximo to support rolling stock and infrastructure.

NedTrain will present together with Oxplus how Rail companies can:

– align their organization and employees when introducing ‘new ways of working’ in combination with an implementation of Asset Management systems like Maximo.

– Implement processes and Maximo to cover the requirements for maintenance of High-Speed rolling stock.

Specifically for the Rail Industry Oxplus has build an ‘accelerator’ which covers nearly all business processes like Fleet Management, Maintenance Engineering, Configuration Management, Workorder management, Purchasing and Logistics, Preventive Maintenance, Planning & Scheduling but also Incident Management, SHE (Safety Health and Environment) and Warranties & Claims.

By using our PEAQUE methodology we are building a bridge between Projects Objectives and Organizational alignment when implementing an Asset Management system.

‘OXplus supports NedTrain with V250- Hispeed maintenance processes.’

At NedTrain’s Watergraafsmeer high speed train depot everyone is working hard to get the V250 (the AnsaldoBreda 250 km/h V250 train sets, previously known as ‘Albatros’) into Operations. NS Hispeed has ordered 19 of the triple-voltage V250 train sets in order to operate between the following cities / routes: Amsterdam – Schiphol – Rotterdam – Antwerpen – Brussels and Amsterdam – Schiphol – Rotterdam – Breda routes, with Amsterdam – Brussels.

Oxplus is working together with NedTrain on optimizing their Asset & Service Management processes and ICT systems. Maximo is supporting most of NedTrain’s Business processes in order to secure reliability, availability and safety of their new HiSpeed fleet. As NedTrain has to meet its contractual obligations as agreed with the customer and is measured on Fleet performance, this automatically demands the highest standards of the supporting ICT tools. To achieve these goals, OXplus provides high skilled process / functional consultants, change management and project management competences to achieve Maintenance excellence. This includes the basic implementation for the startup V250, but also an improvement execution and advice for further implementations. The main activities / responsibilities of OXplus within this project are:

- Completion of the Process Design and Functional Design for the HiSpeed fleet facility to support the maintenance, services, logistics, purchasing, supply chain and B & D processes, based on the current implementation of Maximo
- The delivery of an operational design for NedTrain ICT to support the HiSpeed maintenance and warranty processes;
- Mapping, specifying and adjusting the necessary integration to other existing applications like SAP LIMA (PLM), SAP Fico and Rostarflex.
- Design of loading relevant data to the intended target systems (Maximo, SAP Lima, Dino).
- Adaptation / expansion of a training environment to educate / train existing staff on new processes related to the HiSpeed Maintenance & Service Management strategy
